Emily is a professional opera singer and has been for 12 years. She earned a performance certificate in opera from The Academy of Vocal Arts and attended Boston University where she received a BA in voice performance. Five years ago, Emily discovered her Yoga practice as an effective method for coping with the stress of her career, especially singing on the road.
Emily is certified at Sonic Yoga in New York City in the Vinyasa tradition and will complete her second certification in March with Tias Little, with influences of the Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions.
Emily teaches breath focused, alignment based Vinyasa flow classes. With 12 years in the professional opera world, Emily is particularly interested in the influence of breath in her teachings, and strives to help other artists recognize the benefits of yoga in their work. Emily encourages students to find their own inner teacher and a place for awareness without judgment in their lives by keeping the practice lighthearted and radiant while giving clear and concise instructions.
Yoga is recognized as a physical practice of poses to develop flexibility and body awareness; however, yoga can also allow for the education of the mind and heart. In addition to uniting body, mind and spirit, the practice of Yoga allows for a union of an individual’s own consciousness and universal consciousness – keeping the individual balanced and fully engaged in oneself and the surrounding world.
She also holds certifications in prenatal/postpartum yoga, as well as Reiki Levels 1 and 2.
Emily teaches group classes and private clients of all ages and levels and is also available for workshops and retreats.
